Choosing the right promotional keychain for your brand: the differences between metal, PVC rubber, leather, epoxy doming and functional keychains, where each works best and which printing methods suit them.

A keychain is one of the longest-lived promotional products: it travels in pockets, bags and car keys every day and keeps your logo visible for years. But "keychain" is not a single product. Material, production method and printing technique directly shape the cost, the lead time and how the gift is perceived. At ALCAN Promosyon we have been manufacturing metal, leather, soft PVC (rubber/silicone), epoxy and wooden keychains since 1986 — here is a summary of the questions we hear most.

1. Metal keychains

Their weight and polished surface signal quality. There are two main routes:

  • Ready-made (in-stock) metal models: Your logo is applied to an existing body by laser engraving, UV printing or epoxy doming. Fast, and available from lower quantities. Examples: 5150-N metal keychain, 560-N metal keychain with doming.
  • Custom die-cast metal: Your logo itself becomes the metal body, embossed or recessed. A mould is required, so it pays off at higher quantities. See 3D keychains.

All metal models: metal keychains.

2. PVC rubber (soft PVC) keychains

Soft PVC keychains are flexible, light and colourful. Your logo or mascot can be reproduced in many colours, embossed or fully 3D — ideal for children's brands, events, sports clubs and mascot campaigns. There are also ready PVC bodies that accept laser or UV printing (e.g. PPA-146-S laser-printable PVC keychain). We explain the process in how PVC rubber keychains are made.

3. Leather keychains

Leather keychains give a refined, corporate look and are popular in automotive, finance, real estate and legal sectors. The logo is usually laser engraved or applied with a metal plate or doming. Boxed models stand out in gift sets (e.g. 8090-S boxed luxury leather keychain). All models: leather keychains.

4. Epoxy (doming) keychains

Doming is a clear, domed epoxy layer poured over a printed label. It makes full-colour logos look vivid and glossy and protects the print from scratches. It works on most metal, leather and plastic bodies and is one of the most economical ways to reproduce full-colour logos.

5. Functional keychains

Products that are remembered because they are used: bottle-opener keychains, radiator bleed-key keychains and more. Examples: P-14-N radiator key keychain, AC-101-DB-N opener keychain with doming. Category: functional keychains.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order for logo keychains?

It depends on the product; each product page shows the minimum quantity and the quantity step. In-stock bodies are economical at lower quantities, while mould-based custom designs make sense at higher quantities.

Can I design the keychain myself?

Yes. On many products the "Design It Yourself" button opens our online editor, where you see your logo on the product; or you can upload your logo and leave the design to our team.

Which printing method lasts longest?

Laser engraving is the most wear-resistant method on metal and leather; doming and UV printing are preferred for full-colour logos. Suitable methods are listed on each product page.
